Screening blood biomarkers for osteoarthritis diagnosis
Screening of Biomarkers for Osteoarthritis and Establishment of a Multidimensional Data Based Early Diagnostic Method
This project will test whether certain blood biomarkers can help diagnose osteoarthritis in people aged 40–70 who have had joint pain or stiffness for at least three months.

What this trial studies
Researchers will collect blood samples from patients with diagnosed or suspected osteoarthritis attending the orthopedic outpatient department of a tertiary hospital in Xinxiang. Diagnostic and differential tests, including X-ray and MRI, will be used alongside laboratory analysis to compare previously reported candidate biomarkers with clinical diagnoses. The goal is to identify biomarkers that show reliable validity and reproducibility for early detection or differentiation of OA. Participants must meet inclusion/exclusion criteria and complete required imaging and follow-up visits.
Who should consider this trial
Good fit: Adults aged 40–70 with joint pain or stiffness lasting at least three months who can give informed consent and complete imaging, blood draws, and follow-up visits are ideal candidates.
Not a fit: Patients with other severe joint diseases (such as rheumatoid arthritis or gout), recent joint surgery, severe systemic illness, cognitive impairment, or inability to complete required imaging or follow-up are unlikely to benefit.
Why it matters
Potential benefit: If successful, validated blood biomarkers could enable earlier and more accurate diagnosis of osteoarthritis, potentially reducing delayed treatment and long-term disability.
How similar studies have performed: Some candidate OA biomarkers have been reported in prior research, but none have been universally validated for routine clinical use, so this project builds on preliminary findings rather than testing an already proven diagnostic.
