What this trial studies

This is an observational clinical assessment program conducted at Selcuk University’s MS Life Center that measures muscle mass, muscle strength, physical performance, and nutritional indicators in adults with multiple sclerosis. Eligible participants are ambulatory, neurologist-diagnosed adults in a stable phase of disease who can give informed consent. The protocol uses standardized clinical assessments (including EDSS screening, body composition and strength testing, and nutrition questionnaires) to identify sarcopenia and associated contributors. Results will describe prevalence and correlate muscle status with disability, physical performance, and nutritional factors.

Who should consider this trial

Good fit: Adults (≥18) with a neurologist-confirmed multiple sclerosis diagnosis who are in a stable phase (no relapse in the past 3 months), able to walk (EDSS ≤6.5), and able to give informed consent.

Not a fit: People with other neuromuscular diseases, recent major surgery or trauma, recent corticosteroid- or immunosuppressive-related muscle loss, systemic diseases that cause muscle wasting, or who are pregnant or breastfeeding are excluded and unlikely to benefit from this protocol.

Why it matters

Potential benefit: If successful, the findings could help clinicians identify MS patients at risk for muscle loss so they can offer targeted rehabilitation and nutritional support to preserve function.

How similar studies have performed: Prior research has reported a high prevalence of sarcopenia in people with MS and links to poorer physical performance and quality of life, but prevalence estimates vary and comprehensive data are limited.
