What this trial studies

SAPHIR2 is a multicenter, non-interventional study comparing a brief clinical questionnaire (SAPHIR) with objective activity monitoring (Activ-PAL) in adults seen at participating centers. Participants wear the Activ-PAL monitor for several days while completing the SAPHIR questionnaire for the same period. The study compares questionnaire scores to recorded activity data to determine whether the simpler score accurately represents measured physical activity. The goal is to create a short, easy-to-compute tool suitable for routine use in community medicine.

Who should consider this trial

Good fit: Adults (18 and older) referred to one of the participating centers who can walk, are not professional endurance athletes, and can understand study instructions are ideal candidates.

Not a fit: Patients with contraindications to walking, professional endurance athletes, those unable to understand instructions, or those with fewer than three days of valid Activ-PAL recordings are unlikely to benefit from this approach.

Why it matters

Potential benefit: If successful, clinicians could use the short SAPHIR questionnaire to quickly and reliably estimate patients' physical activity without needing routine activity monitors.

How similar studies have performed: Longer questionnaires like the GPAQ are validated and widely used and shorter tools have been attempted, but this specific brief SAPHIR form requires separate validation and is relatively novel.
