Risk prediction for gastrointestinal dysfunction in colorectal cancer patients after surgery

Construction and Validation of Risk Prediction Model for Gastrointestinal Dysfunction of Patient With Colorectal Cancer After Surgery

Sun Yat-sen University · NCT05891301

What this trial studies

This study aims to analyze postoperative gastrointestinal dysfunction in patients who have undergone radical surgery for colorectal cancer. It will identify risk factors and develop two risk prediction models, including a nomogram and a decision tree classification model. The models will be validated internally and externally to assess their clinical effectiveness and practicality. The goal is to provide a reliable tool for predicting the risk of gastrointestinal complications post-surgery.

Who should consider this trial

Good fit: Ideal candidates are adults aged 18 and older with diagnosed colon or rectal cancer who have undergone radical resection.

Not a fit: Patients with multiple cancers or those unable to communicate due to cognitive impairments will not benefit from this study.

Why it matters

Potential benefit: If successful, this study could help identify patients at high risk for gastrointestinal dysfunction, allowing for targeted interventions and improved postoperative care.

How similar studies have performed: Other studies have shown success in developing risk prediction models for surgical complications, indicating that this approach has potential.
