Risk factors and outcomes of biliary complications after adult living-donor liver transplant

Risk Factors and Outcome of Biliary Complications Following Adult Living Donor Liver Transplantation in Al-Rajhy Liver Hospital in Upper Egypt.

Observational Assiut University · NCT03789383

What this trial studies

This is an observational project combining a retrospective chart review with prospective data collection from adult living-donor liver transplant recipients at Al‑Rajhy Liver Hospital, Assiut University. The team will document the frequency and specific types of biliary complications (anastomotic and non-anastomotic strictures, leaks, bilomas, stones, cholangitis, etc.) and collect perioperative and clinical variables. Analyses will seek associations between patient, donor, and surgical factors and the occurrence and clinical course of biliary complications. The study excludes pediatric and cadaveric (deceased-donor) transplants and does not introduce experimental treatments.

Who should consider this trial

Good fit: Adults aged over 18 who received a living-donor liver transplant at Al‑Rajhy Liver Hospital (Assiut University) are the intended participants.

Not a fit: Pediatric patients and recipients of cadaveric (deceased-donor) liver transplants are excluded and will not be included or directly benefit from this study's results.

Why it matters

Potential benefit: If successful, the findings could help clinicians identify modifiable risk factors and improve prevention and management of biliary complications after living-donor liver transplant.

How similar studies have performed: Previous clinical series have shown that biliary complications are common after living-donor liver transplantation and that identifying perioperative risk factors can reduce complication rates, so this work builds on established but variable evidence.
