What this trial studies

This observational study will recruit adults in the UK who had microbiologically confirmed pulmonary TB and completed treatment within the past 18 months. Participants will undergo lung function testing (spirometry), clinical history review, and standardized questionnaires about respiratory symptoms and quality of life, with additional tests or imaging if clinically indicated. The study will describe how common and how severe post-TB respiratory and wellbeing problems are in this population and compare findings with recent international post-TB care standards. Results will inform whether routine follow-up and specific interventions are needed for TB survivors in the UK.

Who should consider this trial

Good fit: Adults (18 or older) in the UK with microbiologically confirmed pulmonary TB who completed TB treatment within the last 18 months and can provide informed consent.

Not a fit: People with previously diagnosed, poorly controlled chronic lung disease, those unable to perform spirometry, or those with incomplete TB treatment records may not gain useful information from this study.

Why it matters

Potential benefit: If substantial post-TB problems are identified, the findings could support routine follow-up and targeted treatments to improve lung health and quality of life for TB survivors.

How similar studies have performed: Multiple studies from low- and middle-income countries have shown high rates of post-TB lung impairment and international guidance has been published, but comparable UK data are limited.
