What this trial studies

This project focuses on understanding atherosclerotic plaques that can lead to heart attacks and strokes by studying plaques removed during carotid endarterectomy. The researchers aim to identify vulnerable plaques through advanced imaging techniques and circulating biomarkers, which may help in early detection and treatment. By analyzing the structure and mechanisms of these plaques, the study seeks to uncover potential therapeutic targets or markers for better management of atherosclerosis.

Who should consider this trial

Good fit: Ideal candidates are adults over 18 years old who are eligible for carotid endarterectomy due to atherosclerosis.

Not a fit: Patients under 18 years old or those who cannot provide informed consent will not benefit from this study.

Why it matters

Potential benefit: If successful, this research could lead to improved early detection and treatment strategies for patients at risk of cardiovascular events.

How similar studies have performed: Other studies have explored similar imaging techniques for atherosclerosis, indicating potential for success in this area.
