What this trial studies
This study evaluates the effectiveness of a remote real-time guidance system for family members caring for patients with gastrointestinal neoplasms who have indwelling central venous catheters (PICC or PORT). It compares traditional hospital nursing care with a family self-nursing approach, where family members receive online support from specialist nurses. The study involves training family members in proper catheter care techniques and monitoring their performance through recorded instructional videos and real-time guidance. The aim is to improve patient care while reducing the need for hospital visits during the COVID-19 pandemic.
Who should consider this trial
Good fit: Ideal candidates are adults aged 18 to 75 diagnosed with gastric or colorectal cancer who have an indwelling PICC or PORT and can actively participate in the study.
Not a fit: Patients with psychological disorders or those unable to communicate or cooperate due to other factors may not benefit from this study.
Why it matters
Potential benefit: If successful, this approach could enhance the quality of home care for patients, reducing complications and improving their overall treatment experience.
How similar studies have performed: While the specific approach of remote guidance for home care is relatively novel, similar studies have shown promise in enhancing patient care and reducing hospital visits.
