What this trial studies

This study evaluates the effects of a combined rehabilitation approach that integrates linguistic and metacognitive training for patients with chronic vascular aphasia following a stroke. It aims to improve language performance and enhance functional cerebral connectivity networks, potentially benefiting both verbal and non-verbal communication skills. The study is a prospective, randomized controlled, open-label, single-centre trial conducted at the University Hospital of Toulouse. Participants will undergo semantic rehabilitation to address word-finding difficulties associated with aphasia.

Who should consider this trial

Good fit: Ideal candidates are individuals who have experienced their first cerebral infarction and are in the chronic phase of recovery, with mild to moderate aphasia.

Not a fit: Patients with pre-existing cognitive impairments, severe psychiatric conditions, or those unable to undergo MRI may not benefit from this study.

Why it matters

Potential benefit: If successful, this approach could significantly enhance communication abilities and overall quality of life for patients with chronic vascular aphasia.

How similar studies have performed: While studies have explored linguistic and metacognitive training separately, this combined approach is novel and has not been previously assessed in post-stroke aphasic patients.
