Registry of stroke risk factors in Chinese patients with atrial fibrillation

Risk Factors for Stroke or Systemic Embolism in Chinese Patients with Non-Valvular Atrial Fibrillation Registry

Observational China National Center for Cardiovascular Diseases · NCT05598632

What this trial studies

This observational study aims to validate existing stroke risk stratification models for patients with atrial fibrillation (AF) and to establish a new stroke risk assessment model using a nationwide AF-specific registry in China. It will enroll approximately 5,000 prospective and 22,000 retrospective patients, collecting extensive data on demographics, cardiovascular risk factors, treatment strategies, and outcomes over a follow-up period of about three years. The primary focus is on identifying factors associated with stroke or systemic embolic events in this population.

Who should consider this trial

Good fit: Ideal candidates for this study are adults aged 18 and older with a documented history of atrial fibrillation.

Not a fit: Patients with moderate or severe mitral stenosis, mechanical heart valves, or those who have undergone AF ablation or left atrial appendage closure may not benefit from this study.

Why it matters

Potential benefit: If successful, this study could lead to improved risk assessment and management strategies for patients with atrial fibrillation, potentially reducing the incidence of stroke.

How similar studies have performed: Other studies have shown success in validating stroke risk models in atrial fibrillation populations, making this approach both relevant and promising.
