What this trial studies

This study collects tissue and blood samples from patients undergoing surgery for liver or biliary masses to create a registry for future research. The samples will be used to investigate the biology, causes, and prognosis of liver and biliary cancers, including hepatocellular carcinoma and cholangiocarcinoma. Patient-derived xenografts may also be utilized to further understand these diseases. Clinical data related to patient outcomes will be securely stored and analyzed.

Who should consider this trial

Good fit: Ideal candidates are patients scheduled for surgical resection of a liver or biliary mass.

Not a fit: Patients under 18 years of age or those who have received prior radiation to the mass will not benefit from this study.

Why it matters

Potential benefit: If successful, this research could lead to improved understanding and treatment options for liver and biliary cancers.

How similar studies have performed: Other studies utilizing tissue registries for cancer research have shown success in advancing understanding and treatment options, making this approach promising.
