What this trial studies

This observational study aims to gather and analyze real-world data on patients diagnosed with gastrointestinal stromal tumors (GIST) in Taiwan. It will collect information on the prevalence, demographic characteristics, treatment patterns, biomarker profiles, and treatment outcomes of GIST therapies, particularly focusing on tyrosine kinase inhibitors (TKIs). The study will utilize both retrospective and prospective data collection methods from medical records and a dedicated data bank, involving up to 3,000 eligible subjects. The findings will help assess nationwide trends in GIST diagnosis, treatment, and outcomes over a decade.

Who should consider this trial

Good fit: Ideal candidates for this study are Taiwanese patients aged 20 and older who have been histologically confirmed to have GIST between January 2010 and December 2020.

Not a fit: Patients who are unable or unwilling to provide informed consent or those unlikely to have long-term follow-up due to severe concomitant illnesses may not benefit from this study.

Why it matters

Potential benefit: If successful, this study could provide valuable insights into the management and treatment outcomes of GIST, potentially improving patient care and treatment strategies.

How similar studies have performed: While this study is observational and focuses on real-world data, similar studies have shown success in understanding treatment patterns and outcomes in other cancer populations.
