What this trial studies
This project evaluates the feasibility of a 6-month family-based community intervention aimed at reducing cardiovascular disease risk factors among Hispanic families in northern Colorado. The program, known as the UCHealth Healthy Hearts Family Program, includes educational classes, biometric screenings, and consultations with health professionals. By engaging the family unit, particularly children as agents of change, the initiative seeks to improve health knowledge and behaviors related to cardiovascular health. The long-term goal is to enhance CVD risk factors and inform outreach programs for better health outcomes in underserved Hispanic populations.
Who should consider this trial
Good fit: Ideal candidates include Hispanic families with at least one member aged 13 or older who are willing to participate in the program.
Not a fit: Patients who cannot commit to wearing a Fitbit daily or who do not have a parent or guardian to accompany children will not benefit from this study.
Why it matters
Potential benefit: If successful, this program could lead to significant reductions in cardiovascular disease risk factors among Hispanic families.
How similar studies have performed: Other community-based interventions targeting cardiovascular health in similar populations have shown promise, indicating potential for success in this approach.
