What this trial studies

This study evaluates the effectiveness of psychotherapy sessions that target self-concept and autobiographical memory in individuals with Alcohol Use Disorder (AUD). It aims to understand the relationship between drinking identity and AUD through a longitudinal design involving three assessment visits over six months. Participants will engage in four individual psychotherapy sessions inspired by Social Identity Mapping in Addiction Recovery, combined with autobiographical reasoning exercises. The study will assess levels of alcohol use and dependence, as well as changes in self-concept related to drinking identity.

Who should consider this trial

Good fit: Ideal candidates are individuals over 24 years old with a diagnosis of Alcohol Use Disorder who are native French speakers and enrolled in the national healthcare insurance program.

Not a fit: Patients with current non-stabilized psychiatric disorders, other substance use disorders, or neurological impairments may not benefit from this study.

Why it matters

Potential benefit: If successful, this approach could lead to improved treatment outcomes for patients with Alcohol Use Disorder by reshaping their self-concept and drinking identity.

How similar studies have performed: While the specific approach of combining self-concept and autobiographical memory in psychotherapy for AUD is novel, related studies have shown promise in addressing drinking behaviors through identity-focused interventions.
