What this trial studies

This study investigates the efficacy of Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT) as a psychological intervention for patients suffering from chronic kidney disease. Participants will be assessed for eligibility and then randomly assigned to either a control group or an intervention group receiving 8 sessions of ACT. The effectiveness of the treatment will be evaluated using self-report instruments before and after the intervention, as well as at a 3-month follow-up. The study aims to provide insights into the psychological well-being of patients undergoing hemodialysis.

Who should consider this trial

Good fit: Ideal candidates are adults over 18 years old with chronic kidney disease on hemodialysis for at least 3 months and experiencing moderate to severe depression.

Not a fit: Patients with severe mental disorders, cognitive impairments, or those currently receiving other psychological treatments may not benefit from this study.

Why it matters

Potential benefit: If successful, this treatment could significantly improve the mental health and quality of life for patients with chronic kidney disease.

How similar studies have performed: While the use of ACT in chronic illness management is gaining attention, this specific application in chronic kidney disease is relatively novel and has not been extensively tested.
