Promoting equitable lung cancer screening for Hispanic current and former smokers
Health Opportunities and Promoters of Equitable Screening for Lung Cancer (HOPES for Lung Cancer)

What this trial studies
This observational project will recruit Hispanic adults aged 50–80 who are current or former smokers and not currently enrolled in lung cancer screening. Participants will view a culturally tailored educational video delivered digitally and then complete brief self-report surveys about smoking documentation, screening interest, and intent to schedule screening. The study will explore barriers to consistent identification and documentation of smoking status and measure feasibility, acceptability, and reach of the digital video delivery. Results will inform future interventions aimed at increasing lung cancer screening uptake in this underserved population.
Who should consider this trial
Good fit: Ideal candidates are Hispanic adults 50–80 years old who are current smokers or former smokers who quit within 15 years or have a history of ≥20 pack-years, speak English or Spanish, and are not currently enrolled in lung cancer screening.
Not a fit: People already enrolled in lung cancer screening, those with a current lung cancer diagnosis, individuals with cognitive inability to consent or complete surveys, or individuals outside the age or smoking-history criteria are unlikely to benefit from participation.
Why it matters
Potential benefit: If successful, the approach could increase screening rates and earlier detection of lung cancer among Hispanic smokers, potentially improving survival in this group.
How similar studies have performed: Educational outreach has increased screening uptake in other populations, but few studies have tested digitally delivered, culturally tailored videos specifically for Hispanic current and former smokers.
