Project to identify cognitive impairment and dementia risk using mobility tests

Uppsala-Dalarna Dementia and Gait Project

Dalarna University · NCT05893524

What this trial studies

The Uppsala-Dalarna Dementia and Gait Project aims to aid in the early identification of cognitive impairment and dementia risk through a novel dual-task test combining the Timed Up-and-Go (TUG) mobility test with a verbal task. This observational study will evaluate the validity, reliability, and predictive capacity of the TUG dual-task (TUGdt) in predicting dementia. Additionally, the project seeks to generate normative reference values from healthy individuals to enhance the understanding of cognitive decline. The research is conducted at Uppsala University Hospital and Falu Hospital in Sweden.

Who should consider this trial

Good fit: Ideal candidates include patients undergoing memory assessments at Uppsala University Hospital or Falu Hospital, as well as cognitively unimpaired individuals with a high MMSE score.

Not a fit: Patients who are unable to walk independently or require a walking aid may not benefit from this study.

Why it matters

Potential benefit: If successful, this project could lead to earlier detection of cognitive impairment and dementia, allowing for timely interventions.

How similar studies have performed: While the approach is innovative, further research is needed to confirm its effectiveness, as similar dual-task methodologies have shown promise but require validation.
