What this trial studies

This study evaluates the effectiveness of two interventions aimed at preventing and reducing alcohol misuse among youth patients in primary care. Participants aged 12-17 will receive either a brief web-based program or the web program combined with 8 weeks of supportive text messages. Additionally, parents or caregivers are encouraged to use a free app to facilitate discussions about alcohol use with their children. The study aims to assess the scalability of these interventions for widespread implementation in clinical settings.

Who should consider this trial

Good fit: Ideal candidates are youth aged 12-17 who have used alcohol in the past year and have access to a phone capable of receiving text messages.

Not a fit: Patients who do not understand English or are unable to provide informed consent due to cognitive limitations may not benefit from this study.

Why it matters

Potential benefit: If successful, this study could provide effective tools for reducing alcohol misuse among adolescents, leading to healthier outcomes.
