What this trial studies

This study investigates the effects of probiotic supplementation on patients with chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD) undergoing pulmonary rehabilitation. It is a one-year, single-center, prospective randomized controlled trial involving 60 participants who will be assigned to either a probiotic intervention group or a conventional rehabilitation group. The study will assess various physiological responses, functional performance, respiratory status, nutritional status, body composition, and biochemical blood parameters, focusing on the anti-inflammatory response. Data will be analyzed statistically to determine the significance of the findings.

Who should consider this trial

Good fit: Ideal candidates include adults diagnosed with pre-COPD or COPD stage I-IV who are currently undergoing pulmonary rehabilitation.

Not a fit: Patients under 18 years old, those with neuromuscular diseases, or individuals experiencing recent respiratory exacerbations may not benefit from this study.

Why it matters

Potential benefit: If successful, this study could enhance the nutritional status and lung function of COPD patients, leading to improved rehabilitation outcomes.

How similar studies have performed: Previous studies have shown promising results with probiotic interventions in respiratory conditions, suggesting potential benefits in this area.
