What this trial studies

This study aims to prevent renal failure in patients suffering from rhabdomyolysis due to heatstroke by administering sodium bicarbonate. The intervention is based on previous findings that bicarbonate infusion can reduce the incidence of renal failure in similar cases. Conducted at the General Hospital of Mexicali during the summer months, the study will evaluate the effectiveness of this treatment in preventing the need for renal replacement therapy. Eligible patients will be those diagnosed with heatstroke and exhibiting specific clinical criteria.

Who should consider this trial

Good fit: Ideal candidates are patients admitted to the General Hospital of Mexicali with a diagnosis of heatstroke and elevated CPK levels.

Not a fit: Patients who do not meet the criteria for heatstroke or lack necessary serum creatinine levels may not benefit from this study.

Why it matters

Potential benefit: If successful, this approach could significantly reduce the incidence of kidney damage in heatstroke patients.

How similar studies have performed: Previous studies have shown success with bicarbonate infusion in similar contexts, suggesting potential for this approach.
