What this trial studies

This is an observational, cross-sectional collection of data on active smoking, passive smoke exposure, and e-cigarette use in adults with confirmed cystic fibrosis who receive regular care at the Strasbourg Adult Cystic Fibrosis Center. Participants will be adults (≥18) with confirmed CF; patients with prior double lung transplantation are excluded. Information will be gathered by questionnaires and chart review to quantify prevalence and patterns of tobacco and vaping exposure. The findings aim to fill a gap in French data and to inform local tobacco-prevention and clinical counseling, including considerations about interactions with CFTR modulators such as Kaftrio.

Who should consider this trial

Good fit: Adults (age ≥18) with confirmed cystic fibrosis who attend regular follow-up at the Strasbourg Adult Cystic Fibrosis Center are the intended participants.

Not a fit: People under 18, patients not followed at the Strasbourg center, and those who have had a double lung transplant are unlikely to benefit directly from this study's findings.

Why it matters

Potential benefit: If successful, the study could identify how common smoking and vaping are in this population and guide targeted tobacco-prevention and counseling efforts to improve respiratory health and treatment effectiveness.

How similar studies have performed: International studies have reported links between smoking/vaping and outcomes or CFTR modulator effectiveness, but comprehensive prevalence data in French adult CF cohorts are limited.
