What this trial studies
This national feasibility study aims to validate the endovascular preparation of the iliac axis for patients requiring a custom endoprosthesis prior to kidney transplantation. It focuses on individuals with chronic renal failure who face vascular contraindications that hinder their ability to receive a transplant. By assessing the safety and effectiveness of this approach, the study seeks to improve patient outcomes and reduce healthcare costs associated with hemodialysis. The observational nature of the study allows for a comprehensive evaluation of existing patient data.
Who should consider this trial
Good fit: Ideal candidates are adults aged 18 to 85 with chronic renal failure who are awaiting a kidney transplant but have vascular anatomical constraints.
Not a fit: Patients with contraindications to kidney transplantation unrelated to vascular issues, such as severe cardiovascular disease or uncontrolled infections, may not benefit from this study.
Why it matters
Potential benefit: If successful, this approach could enable more patients to access kidney transplants, significantly improving their quality of life and survival rates.
How similar studies have performed: While this approach is innovative, similar studies have not been widely reported, indicating that this may be a novel exploration in the field.
