What this trial studies
This clinical pilot aims to assess the feasibility of implementing a trimodal prehabilitation program, which includes exercise, nutrition, and mindfulness coaching, for patients undergoing major colorectal surgery. The study will enroll fifty patients from the colorectal cancer clinic at Kingston Health Sciences Centre and will compare outcomes of those receiving prehabilitation to a historical cohort that did not. The primary focus is on evaluating the impact of prehabilitation on mortality, length of hospital stay, complications, readmissions, and overall recovery. Participants will receive tailored resources and complete baseline questionnaires to assess their physical activity, nutritional status, and quality of life.
Who should consider this trial
Good fit: Ideal candidates are adults aged 18 or older scheduled for major colorectal surgery.
Not a fit: Patients who refuse to participate or cannot understand the study materials in English may not benefit from this study.
Why it matters
Potential benefit: If successful, this approach could enhance recovery and improve outcomes for colorectal cancer surgery patients.
How similar studies have performed: Other studies have shown promising results with prehabilitation approaches in surgical patients, suggesting potential for success in this context.
