Pregnancy 24/7 Offspring: tracking infant growth and heart-risk after pregnancy
Sedentary Behavior, Physical Activity, and 24-hour Behavior in Pregnancy and Offspring Health: the Pregnancy 24/7 Offspring Study
This project will test whether a pregnant person's daily activity, sitting time, and sleep across pregnancy are linked to their child's growth, body fat, and early heart-disease risk up to age 2.

What this trial studies
This multi-site observational cohort follows participants from the Pregnancy 24/7 study and adds standardized offspring measurements through 24 months. Maternal 24-hour behaviours (sedentary time, physical activity, and sleep) were measured objectively in each trimester using wearable monitors. Offspring outcomes include growth, adiposity, and early cardiovascular risk markers, with exclusion of children with major congenital or chromosomal abnormalities. The work leverages harmonized data from University of Iowa, University of Pittsburgh, and West Virginia University and is supported by the National Heart, Lung, and Blood Institute.
Who should consider this trial
Good fit: Ideal participants are people enrolled in the Pregnancy 24/7 cohort who provided at least one valid 24-hour activity/sleep monitor recording during pregnancy and had a singleton live birth.
Not a fit: Families whose child has congenital or chromosomal conditions that affect growth or cardiovascular risk, or who did not complete the required prenatal monitoring, are unlikely to benefit from the findings.
Why it matters
Potential benefit: If successful, this could identify pregnancy behaviours that can be changed to lower children's obesity and early cardiovascular risk.
How similar studies have performed: Previous work links maternal obesity, smoking, diet, and gestational weight gain to offspring risk, but using objective 24-hour monitoring of activity and sleep in pregnancy to predict child growth and early cardiovascular risk is relatively novel and not yet widely tested.
