Predicting fall risk in older adults living in the community
Validating a Multifactorial Algorithm to Predict Fall Risk in Community Dwelling Older Persons Aged 65 Years or Older
This study is testing a new tool to see if it can better predict fall risks in older adults living in the community compared to current methods.

What this trial studies
This observational study aims to validate a new multifactorial algorithm designed to predict fall risk among community-dwelling older adults aged 65 and older in Belgium. Participants will undergo a one-time assessment that includes questionnaires and physical tests to evaluate their risk factors for falls. The study will compare the accuracy of this new algorithm against current Belgian fall prevention policies. The goal is to optimize the screening instrument and establish appropriate cutoff scores for identifying individuals at risk of falling.
Who should consider this trial
Good fit: Ideal candidates for this study are community-dwelling adults aged 65 years or older who can stand and walk independently.
Not a fit: Patients under 65 years of age or those who have had recent surgery affecting mobility will not benefit from this study.
Why it matters
Potential benefit: If successful, this study could lead to improved identification of older adults at risk of falls, enabling targeted prevention strategies.
How similar studies have performed: Other studies have shown success in using multifactorial approaches to predict fall risk, indicating that this method is promising and not entirely novel.
