Predicting disease flares in ulcerative colitis using artificial intelligence
Personalised Prediction of Disease Course in Ulcerative Colitis Using Multimodal Machine Learning - Part of the Presager Project
This study is testing if a new computer model can help predict when people with ulcerative colitis might have a flare-up after they've been feeling better.

What this trial studies
This observational study aims to utilize a deep learning model to predict the likelihood of a new flare in patients with ulcerative colitis who have achieved clinical remission. By analyzing clinical and objective data collected at the start and after eight weeks, the study seeks to provide accurate predictions for flare-ups within the next 12 months, as well as over two and three years. The model will also assess its ability to identify patients who are unlikely to experience a flare during these timeframes.
Who should consider this trial
Good fit: Ideal candidates for this study are individuals diagnosed with ulcerative colitis for at least one year who have recently experienced a flare.
Not a fit: Patients whose flares are attributed to conditions other than ulcerative colitis may not benefit from this study.
Why it matters
Potential benefit: If successful, this approach could help patients manage their ulcerative colitis more effectively by anticipating flares and adjusting treatment accordingly.
How similar studies have performed: While the use of artificial intelligence in predicting disease outcomes is a growing field, this specific application in ulcerative colitis is relatively novel and has not been extensively tested in prior studies.
