Predicting cancer treatment response using 3D cell cultures
KM3D Multicenter Cancer Consortium Study: Validation of In Vitro 3D Cell Culture Models for Tumor Drug Sensitivity After Tissue Removal
This study is testing if lab-grown mini tumors from patients can help predict how well cancer treatments will work for them.

What this trial studies
This observational study aims to evaluate the Known Medicine platform's ability to predict the effectiveness of cancer drug treatments by utilizing tumor organoids derived from patient samples. Participants will provide tumor tissue and blood samples during a medically indicated surgical procedure, which will then be analyzed to measure drug sensitivity. The study focuses on correlating the drug response of these organoids with actual patient treatment outcomes, thereby validating the predictive model. The approach involves advanced cell culture techniques and may include genetic sequencing of the samples.
Who should consider this trial
Good fit: Ideal candidates are adults over 18 with a primary solid cancer that requires surgical intervention.
Not a fit: Patients with conditions that prevent participation or those not undergoing surgical procedures for their cancer may not benefit from this study.
Why it matters
Potential benefit: If successful, this study could lead to more personalized and effective cancer treatment strategies for patients.
How similar studies have performed: Other studies utilizing 3D cell culture models for predicting cancer treatment responses have shown promise, indicating potential for success in this approach.
Eligibility criteria
Show full inclusion / exclusion criteria
Inclusion Criteria: * A demonstrated primary solid cancer for which it is medically indicated and planned to be surgically resected, biopsied, or drained (via malignant pleural effusion). * The ability to ship the tissue sample within 24 hours of removal from the patient. * Signed and dated consent to giving tissue as well as allowing for de-identified medical history information regarding administered treatments and treatment outcomes to be shared. * over 18 years of age Exclusion Criteria: * Presence of a condition(s) or diagnosis, either physical or psychological, or physical exam finding that precludes participation in the opinion of the Investigator.
