Powerball exercises to improve arm endurance and coordination in children with Down syndrome

Comparative Effects Of Powerball Using Static and Dynamic Surface on Upper Limb Endurance and Coordination in Children With Down Syndrome

Not applicable Interventional Riphah International University · NCT07244133

What this trial studies

This randomized trial will enroll 28 children with Down syndrome aged 6–10 years and randomly assign them to two groups. Over three weeks participants will do three 30-minute sessions per week of structured upper-extremity activities using a powerball, with one group on a static surface and the other on a dynamic BOSU surface; each session includes 5-minute warm-up and cool-down. Endurance will be measured with the ABIL-HAND kids tool and coordination with selected subsets of the BOT-2. Data will be collected from special schools and rehabilitation centers and analyzed using SPSS 27.0.

Who should consider this trial

Good fit: Children aged 6–10 years with Down syndrome who can follow simple commands and have reduced upper-extremity endurance or coordination would be candidates.

Not a fit: Children with additional orthopedic or neurological conditions, other genetic disorders, or those unable to follow instructions are unlikely to benefit from this specific program.

Why it matters

Potential benefit: If successful, the program could improve upper-limb endurance and coordination, helping children with Down syndrome perform daily tasks more easily.

How similar studies have performed: Using a powerball for this purpose is relatively novel in Down syndrome, though small studies of task-specific upper-limb and dynamic training in similar populations have shown some short-term benefits.
