Portable 0.7T head-only MRI for brain imaging

A Pilot Study of a Portable Head-Only MRI Scanner

Not applicable Interventional University of Minnesota · NCT07444034

What this trial studies

This pilot tests human brain imaging using a new portable 0.7 Tesla head-only MRI scanner developed at the University of Minnesota Center for Magnetic Resonance Research (CMRR). Adults who can consent and have no MRI contraindications will be scanned on-site to demonstrate image quality and operational feasibility. The protocol excludes pregnant people and those with extreme claustrophobia and follows standard MRI safety screening. Collected data will inform device refinement and planning for larger validation studies.

Who should consider this trial

Good fit: Adults aged 18 or older who can give informed consent and have no contraindications to MRI are the intended participants.

Not a fit: Pregnant people, individuals with MRI contraindications, or those with extreme claustrophobia may not be able to participate or benefit from this scanner.

Why it matters

Potential benefit: If successful, the device could make brain MRI more accessible by enabling bedside or point-of-care imaging outside traditional MRI suites.

How similar studies have performed: Prior pilot work with portable and low-field MRI systems has shown feasibility, but a 0.7T head-only portable scanner of this design is relatively novel and still undergoing human validation.
