What this trial studies
This clinical trial evaluates the effectiveness of implantoplasty, a technique that polishes the surface of dental implants, as an adjunct to surgical therapy for peri-implantitis. The study compares clinical outcomes and radiographic bone gain in patients treated with reconstructive therapy combined with implantoplasty versus those treated with only reconstructive therapy. The goal is to determine if implantoplasty enhances the resolution of peri-implantitis and improves bone regeneration around affected implants.
Who should consider this trial
Good fit: Ideal candidates are non-smoking adults aged 18 to 80 with peri-implantitis and no systemic diseases affecting bone metabolism.
Not a fit: Patients who are pregnant, smokers, or have uncontrolled medical conditions may not benefit from this study.
Why it matters
Potential benefit: If successful, this approach could lead to improved treatment outcomes for patients suffering from peri-implantitis.
How similar studies have performed: While the specific approach of implantoplasty in this context may be novel, similar studies have explored various methods for treating peri-implantitis with varying degrees of success.
