What this trial studies

This clinical trial aims to evaluate the effects of a plant-based diet (PBD) on kidney transplant recipients by assessing cardiometabolic and inflammatory parameters. Participants will undergo a two-week dietary training program followed by a 16-week intervention where they will consume a PBD under supervision. The study will involve regular monitoring through blood draws, urine samples, and questionnaires to track health outcomes and dietary adherence. The goal is to determine the feasibility and impact of transitioning to a PBD for improving health in this population.

Who should consider this trial

Good fit: Ideal candidates are kidney transplant recipients who are more than three months post-transplant and are currently on immunosuppressive medication.

Not a fit: Patients with active infections, advanced heart failure, or those currently following a plant-based diet may not benefit from this study.

Why it matters

Potential benefit: If successful, this approach could improve health outcomes and quality of life for kidney transplant recipients.

How similar studies have performed: While the specific approach of a plant-based diet for kidney transplant recipients is novel, similar dietary interventions have shown promise in improving health outcomes in other populations.
