What this trial studies
Researchers will compare how pharmacists implement and how patients access pharmacist-provided birth control services with and without the HAPPI software to determine whether the technology improves implementation and access. The trial enrolls pharmacists who will use HAPPI while delivering routine birth control services and patients aged 18 and older who seek contraception at participating pharmacies. Primary outcomes include measures of ease of pharmacist workflow and patient access to contraception. The lead sponsor is EmPowerX Inc with collaboration from Purdue University, and activities are being conducted at participating EmpoweRx locations in Del Mar, California.
Who should consider this trial
Good fit: Adults aged 18 or older who seek pharmacist-prescribed birth control at a participating pharmacy and are willing to use the HAPPI software.
Not a fit: People under 18, those who cannot or will not use the software, or those living outside areas with participating pharmacies may not benefit from this intervention.
Why it matters
Potential benefit: If successful, HAPPI could shorten wait times and simplify the process of getting birth control from pharmacies, improving timely access for patients.
How similar studies have performed: Previous programs enabling pharmacist prescribing of contraception have improved access in some regions, though digital implementation tools like HAPPI have been less widely tested.
