What this trial studies

This study evaluates the effectiveness of tailoring the length of the biliopancreatic limb (BPL) in One-Anastomosis Gastric Bypass (OAGB) surgery to the individual patient's total small bowel length. The goal is to determine if a personalized BPL length can lead to improved weight loss and metabolic outcomes compared to the standard fixed BPL length of 180 cm. By customizing the surgical approach, the study aims to minimize complications related to malabsorption while maximizing weight loss and health benefits for patients. Participants will be adults undergoing OAGB at the Tel-Aviv Sourasky Medical Center.

Who should consider this trial

Good fit: Ideal candidates are adults aged 18 and older who are undergoing One-Anastomosis Gastric Bypass.

Not a fit: Patients under 18, pregnant women, or those with prior bariatric surgery or short bowel syndrome may not benefit from this study.

Why it matters

Potential benefit: If successful, this approach could lead to more effective weight loss and improved management of obesity-related conditions for patients.

How similar studies have performed: While the concept of tailoring surgical techniques is not novel, the specific approach of personalizing BPL length in OAGB has not been extensively tested in prior studies.
