What this trial studies

This study evaluates the effectiveness of the 'Peer2Me' mentoring program, which pairs acutely ill adolescent and young adult cancer patients with mentors who have survived similar experiences. Over three months, participants in the intervention group receive support from their mentors, while the control group receives a one-time consultation. The study measures psychosocial distress and quality of life before, immediately after, and three months post-intervention using standardized questionnaires. The goal is to assess the impact of peer mentoring on psychological well-being and social support.

Who should consider this trial

Good fit: Ideal candidates are adolescents and young adults aged 18 to 39 who have been diagnosed with cancer within the last six months.

Not a fit: Patients with existing psychiatric conditions or those undergoing palliative treatment may not benefit from this program.

Why it matters

Potential benefit: If successful, this program could significantly improve the psychosocial well-being of young cancer patients through peer support.

How similar studies have performed: Previous studies have shown positive outcomes with peer support interventions in similar populations, indicating potential for success in this approach.
