What this trial studies

This study aims to develop a peer-based care coordination intervention for individuals with Hepatitis C Virus (HCV) who have recently been released from correctional facilities. It will involve a randomized controlled trial where 80 participants will be assigned to either a peer-enhanced intervention or standard clinical care. The study will assess barriers and facilitators to HCV treatment initiation and completion, as well as sustained virologic response, over a follow-up period of approximately 9 months. The goal is to improve linkage to and retention in HCV care for this vulnerable population.

Who should consider this trial

Good fit: Ideal candidates are individuals aged 18 and older, recently released from a U.S. jail or prison, with chronic Hepatitis C and a detectable viral load.

Not a fit: Patients who are unable to sign informed consent or have a life expectancy of less than one year may not benefit from this study.

Why it matters

Potential benefit: If successful, this intervention could significantly improve access to and retention in Hepatitis C care for recently incarcerated individuals.

How similar studies have performed: Other studies have shown promise in using peer support models for chronic disease management, suggesting potential success for this approach.
