HCV-ACCELERATE Advanced Care Coordination and Enhanced Linkage and Retention Among Transitional Re-Entrants
NA · Montefiore Medical Center · NCT04701437
This study is testing a new support program for people with Hepatitis C who have just been released from jail to see if it helps them get and stay in treatment better than regular care.

What this trial studies
This study aims to develop a peer-based care coordination intervention for individuals with Hepatitis C Virus (HCV) who have recently been released from correctional facilities. It will involve a randomized controlled trial where 80 participants will be assigned to either a peer-enhanced intervention or standard clinical care. The study will assess barriers and facilitators to HCV treatment initiation and completion, as well as sustained virologic response, over a follow-up period of approximately 9 months. The goal is to improve linkage to and retention in HCV care for this vulnerable population.
Who should consider this trial
Good fit: Ideal candidates are individuals aged 18 and older, recently released from a U.S. jail or prison, with chronic Hepatitis C and a detectable viral load.
Not a fit: Patients who are unable to sign informed consent or have a life expectancy of less than one year may not benefit from this study.
Why it matters
Potential benefit: If successful, this intervention could significantly improve access to and retention in Hepatitis C care for recently incarcerated individuals.
How similar studies have performed: Other studies have shown promise in using peer support models for chronic disease management, suggesting potential success for this approach.
