What this trial studies
This is an observational study collecting patient-reported outcome measures (PROMs) from adults who undergo pancreatic resection for any indication. Participants will complete standardized quality-of-life and decision-satisfaction questionnaires at multiple time points before and after surgery to track changes over time. The protocol includes adults aged 18 and older who are English-fluent and able to consent, with data gathered at University of Arizona and Mayo Clinic in Phoenix. The goal is to map the typical recovery trajectory and levels of regret or satisfaction to inform preoperative counseling.
Who should consider this trial
Good fit: Adults (18+) who are fluent in English, capable of giving consent, and scheduled to undergo pancreatic resection at one of the participating centers are ideal candidates.
Not a fit: People under 18, those who cannot consent, non-English speakers, or patients not undergoing pancreatic resection are unlikely to benefit from participation.
Why it matters
Potential benefit: If successful, the findings could help clinicians give patients clearer expectations about post-operative quality of life and support better preoperative decision-making.
How similar studies have performed: PROMs have been useful in other surgical areas and smaller pancreatectomy cohorts exist, but comprehensive longitudinal data on quality of life and decision satisfaction after pancreatic resection remain limited.
