PancreasPlus app for monitoring recovery, symptoms, and education after pancreatic cancer treatment
A Prospective Study on the Use of an App (PancreasPlus) for Home Monitoring and Proactive Management of Patients With Pancreatic Cancer.

What this trial studies
Eligible adults with histologically or cytologically confirmed pancreatic cancer (and willing caregivers) will use the PancreasPlus smartphone or tablet app to complete periodic targeted questionnaires, access educational content, and communicate with their care team as part of routine follow-up. The intervention is delivered at participating centers in Pavia and Peschiera del Garda, Italy, and requires basic digital literacy or caregiver support plus Italian language comprehension. Study endpoints include feasibility, patient engagement, perceived quality of care, anxiety levels, and rates of unplanned hospital visits, with attention to any technological or privacy issues. Participation is excluded for those with severe uncompensated cognitive impairment or logistical barriers to follow-up.
Who should consider this trial
Good fit: Adults (≥18) with confirmed pancreatic cancer who have access to a smartphone or tablet, understand Italian, can give informed consent, and/or have a caregiver to help with the app are ideal candidates.
Not a fit: Patients with severe uncompensated cognitive impairment, no reliable smartphone/tablet access or data connection, or who cannot attend required follow-up are unlikely to benefit from participation.
Why it matters
Potential benefit: If successful, the app could improve patient engagement and self-management, lower anxiety, and reduce unplanned hospital visits after pancreatic cancer treatment.
How similar studies have performed: Some oncology programs using digital symptom monitoring and patient‑reported outcome tools have improved engagement and reduced unplanned visits, but dedicated app-based support for postoperative pancreatic cancer care is less well established.
