What this trial studies
This clinical trial evaluates the effectiveness of an oncology clinical nurse specialist-led early intervention multidisciplinary approach to palliative and survivorship care for patients with metastatic solid tumors. It aims to compare patient-reported symptom burden, quality of life, distress, and overall survival between this new model and standard care. The trial will involve 100 adult patients, who will be randomized into treatment groups based on their recruitment setting, either inpatient or outpatient. The study focuses on patients with favorable prognostic curves to assess the impact of specialized care on their overall well-being.
Who should consider this trial
Good fit: Ideal candidates are adults aged 21 and over with metastatic solid tumor malignancies classified as having very favorable or favorable prognostic curves.
Not a fit: Patients under 21 years of age or those with standard risk and unfavorable prognostic curves may not benefit from this study.
Why it matters
Potential benefit: If successful, this approach could significantly reduce symptom burden and improve quality of life for patients with advanced cancer.
How similar studies have performed: Other studies have shown promising results with multidisciplinary palliative care approaches, suggesting potential for success in this trial.
