What this trial studies
This study investigates the effects of ozone therapy on wound healing following gingivectomy and gingivoplasty procedures for patients with gingival enlargement. It compares the healing outcomes of patients receiving ozone therapy in conjunction with traditional periodontal paste to those receiving only the paste. The study will involve 48 systemically healthy adults who will be randomly assigned to either the test or control group after surgery. The aim is to assess pain levels and overall quality of life improvements post-surgery.
Who should consider this trial
Good fit: Ideal candidates are systemically healthy adults over 18 years old with gingival enlargement in the maxillary anterior region.
Not a fit: Patients with systemic conditions requiring antibiotic prophylaxis or those with drug-induced gingival enlargement may not benefit from this study.
Why it matters
Potential benefit: If successful, this approach could significantly reduce pain and enhance recovery for patients undergoing gum surgery.
How similar studies have performed: Previous studies have shown ozone therapy to be effective in enhancing wound healing in various oral conditions, suggesting potential success for this approach.
