What this trial studies

This study evaluates the effects of osteopathic manipulative treatment (OMT) on patients suffering from gastro-oesophageal reflux disease (GERD). Participants will receive OMT to address symptoms such as retrosternal burning and regurgitation, with a focus on those who have been experiencing these symptoms for over three months. The study aims to determine the efficacy of OMT as a non-pharmacological intervention for GERD management.

Who should consider this trial

Good fit: Ideal candidates are individuals experiencing GERD symptoms for more than three months, including those on proton pump inhibitors.

Not a fit: Patients with neoplastic pathologies, those who have undergone GERD surgery, or individuals with active gastric ulcers will not benefit from this study.

Why it matters

Potential benefit: If successful, this treatment could provide a non-invasive alternative for managing GERD symptoms.

How similar studies have performed: While there is limited data on the effectiveness of OMT for GERD, similar manual therapies have shown promise in treating other gastrointestinal conditions.
