What this trial studies

This is a cluster randomized controlled trial conducted in four primary schools in Al Lith City enrolling about 160 boys aged 10–11. Participants will receive two interactive classroom sessions delivered by a dental care professional plus take-home educational materials, with the first session targeting knowledge and attitudes and the second focusing on behavioral skills for oral hygiene and eating habits. Knowledge, attitude, and practice (KAP) questionnaires will be completed before the intervention, immediately after, and six months later. Data will be analyzed using SPSS with descriptive statistics, chi-square tests, One-Way ANOVA, and Generalized Estimating Equations to compare groups over time.

Who should consider this trial

Good fit: Boys aged 10–11 who are enrolled in the participating primary schools in Al Lith and whose parent or guardian provides consent.

Not a fit: Children who are medically ill at the time of the intervention, who are absent during sessions, or who lack parental consent are unlikely to receive benefit from the program.

Why it matters

Potential benefit: If successful, the program could improve children's oral hygiene habits and reduce future dental caries.

How similar studies have performed: Previous school-based oral health education programs have often improved knowledge and short-term behaviors, though long-term effects on caries prevalence are variable.
