What this trial studies
This study explores the effectiveness of internet-based cognitive behavioral therapy (iCBT) for individuals with inflammatory bowel disease (IBD) who self-identify as Black or Hispanic/Latino. It aims to address the psychological distress often experienced by these patients, such as anxiety and depression, which can exacerbate their condition. By leveraging digital technology, the study seeks to provide accessible psychological interventions tailored to the unique social contexts of racial and ethnic minority groups. Participants will engage in iCBT to improve their mental health and quality of life.
Who should consider this trial
Good fit: Ideal candidates for this study are Black or Hispanic/Latino individuals diagnosed with Crohn's disease or ulcerative colitis who experience elevated psychological distress.
Not a fit: Patients with severe psychological distress, active suicidality, or a history of psychiatric hospitalization may not benefit from this study.
Why it matters
Potential benefit: If successful, this approach could significantly enhance the mental health and overall well-being of patients with IBD from underrepresented racial and ethnic backgrounds.
How similar studies have performed: Other studies have shown promise in using digital cognitive behavioral therapy for various conditions, indicating potential success for this novel approach in IBD.
