What this trial studies

This randomized controlled trial tests the ÇİÖMEP online suicide prevention and intervention program for psychological counselors working in secondary schools. Eligible counselors affiliated with the Ministry of National Education in İzmir who hold a relevant bachelor's degree and have internet access will be randomized to receive the online training or continue usual practice. The study measures changes in counselors' knowledge, perceived competence, attitudes toward suicide prevention, and stigma related to suicidal behavior. Standard exclusions include recent personal bereavement by suicide and recent participation in similar trainings, and participants must meet attendance requirements.

Who should consider this trial

Good fit: Ideal candidates are psychological counselors currently working in secondary education institutions affiliated with the Ministry of National Education in İzmir who hold a bachelor's degree in Psychology or Psychological Counseling and Guidance and have reliable internet access.

Not a fit: Counselors who recently lost a close person to suicide, who completed similar training within six months, or who miss multiple training sessions are unlikely to benefit from this program.

Why it matters

Potential benefit: If successful, the program could give school counselors better skills to identify and support students at risk, potentially reducing delays in intervention and lowering suicide risk among adolescents.

How similar studies have performed: Previous gatekeeper and online suicide-prevention trainings have commonly improved provider knowledge and self-confidence, though evidence for direct reductions in suicide rates is limited.
