What this trial studies

Seventy Latinas who report low physical activity and suboptimal fruit/vegetable intake or regular sugary beverage consumption will be randomized to a 12-week interactive Internet-based intervention or a wait-list control. Participants complete an online orientation, provide informed consent, wear a mailed accelerometer for seven days, and finish baseline physical activity and dietary assessments before randomization. The online program offers tailored content, goal setting, and tracking tools to increase fruits and vegetables, reduce sugar-sweetened beverages, and raise physical activity levels, with outcomes reassessed at 12 weeks. Researchers will compare changes in objectively measured activity and self-reported diet between the intervention and wait-list groups.

Who should consider this trial

Good fit: Ideal candidates are adult Latinas (age 18+) who are insufficiently physically active, consume low amounts of fruits and vegetables or drink sugar-sweetened beverages regularly, have regular Internet access, and are not pregnant.

Not a fit: Individuals with orthopedic limitations, a history of heart disease or stroke, or without reliable Internet access may not be eligible or likely to benefit from this online program.

Why it matters

Potential benefit: If successful, the program could help participants increase activity and improve diet quality, potentially reducing health risks related to inactivity and poor nutrition.

How similar studies have performed: Previous Internet-based physical activity and dietary programs have produced modest improvements in activity and diet, though evidence specifically targeting Latinas is comparatively limited.
