What this trial studies

Adults with chronic tinnitus and significant distress were assigned to a 6-week internet-delivered Mindfulness-Based Cognitive Therapy program or a wait-list control. The online program combines mindfulness practices with cognitive strategies aimed at acceptance rather than symptom control. Outcomes measured include tinnitus distress, anxiety, depression, mindfulness traits, and self-compassion at baseline, immediately after treatment, one month later, and six months later. Participants were required to be Polish-speaking adults with tinnitus for at least three months and a TFI score of 32 or higher.

Who should consider this trial

Good fit: Ideal candidates are Polish-speaking adults with chronic tinnitus for at least three months, significant tinnitus-related distress (TFI ≥ 32), willing to participate in online therapy, and who have not completed structured mindfulness training.

Not a fit: People who are mentally incapacitated, non-Polish speakers, those who have already completed structured mindfulness training, or those with low tinnitus distress (TFI < 32) may not benefit from this program.

Why it matters

Potential benefit: If successful, the program could provide an accessible online therapy to reduce tinnitus distress and improve mood and coping.

How similar studies have performed: Mindfulness-based and internet-delivered CBT approaches for tinnitus have shown promise in reducing distress and mood symptoms, though evidence specifically for online MBCT is more limited.
