What this trial studies
This study aims to implement a self-reported online geriatric assessment (GA) tool called CHAMP for older adults scheduled for non-oncological surgery. The tool addresses the unique health needs of older patients by evaluating key domains such as comorbidity, functional status, and cognitive health. By allowing patients to complete the assessment prior to their medical appointments, the study seeks to enhance treatment decision-making and reduce postoperative complications. The initiative is based on recommendations from leading geriatric societies to improve preoperative care for older adults.
Who should consider this trial
Good fit: Ideal candidates are patients aged 70 years and older who have been referred for non-oncological surgery and can communicate in English.
Not a fit: Patients who are younger than 70 years or those who cannot provide informed consent may not benefit from this study.
Why it matters
Potential benefit: If successful, this approach could lead to better personalized treatment plans and improved surgical outcomes for older adults.
How similar studies have performed: Previous studies have shown that geriatric assessments can significantly improve outcomes in older surgical patients, indicating a promising approach.
