What this trial studies

This randomized controlled trial compares 13 weekly sessions of online group cognitive behavioral therapy (CBT) with 13 weekly sessions of online group supportive psychotherapy for two populations: adults with cystic fibrosis and their caregivers. Participants are members of the Hellenic Cystic Fibrosis Association, aged 18–70, and will join groups via Zoom. Outcomes will include measures of depression, anxiety, functional recovery, and caregiver well‑being collected before and after the program. Both interventions are delivered in small groups on the same schedule to isolate the effect of the CBT content.

Who should consider this trial

Good fit: Adults aged 18–70 who are members of the Hellenic Cystic Fibrosis Association and can attend 13 weekly Zoom sessions are ideal candidates.

Not a fit: People who cannot join regular online sessions, are not association members, or have barriers that prevent participation may not receive benefit.

Why it matters

Potential benefit: If successful, participants could experience reduced depression and anxiety and improved daily functioning and recovery.

How similar studies have performed: CBT is proven to reduce depression and anxiety and online/group CBT formats have shown benefits, though application specifically to adults with cystic fibrosis and their caregivers is less well studied.
