What this trial studies

This study aims to evaluate the effectiveness of the Primary care Online Emotion-regulation Treatment (POET) for adolescents aged 12-17 who are seeking help for mental health issues. It employs a randomized controlled trial design, comparing POET with an active comparator, and includes therapist support through a blended format of online modules and video sessions. The study will assess whether improvements in emotion regulation can lead to reductions in mental health problems and will also evaluate the cost-effectiveness of the intervention. Additionally, long-term outcomes will be tracked using registry data for up to 10 years post-treatment.

Who should consider this trial

Good fit: Ideal candidates are adolescents aged 12-17 who are actively seeking treatment for mental health problems.

Not a fit: Patients with severe psychiatric issues requiring more intensive treatment or those at elevated risk of suicide may not benefit from this study.

Why it matters

Potential benefit: If successful, this treatment could provide a scalable and effective solution for youth struggling with various mental health issues.

How similar studies have performed: Other studies have shown promise in using digital interventions for mental health, but this specific approach is relatively novel.
