What this trial studies

Adults meeting BMI criteria (≥30 kg/m2, or 27–<30 kg/m2 with at least one weight-related comorbidity) will receive either once-weekly injectable MET097 or matching placebo for up to 84 weeks. The primary efficacy endpoint is measured after 64 weeks of treatment, with additional assessments at 84 weeks and safety monitoring throughout. Key exclusions include any form of diabetes, recent large weight change, personal or family history of medullary thyroid carcinoma or MEN-2, recent pancreatitis, or active symptomatic gallbladder disease. The trial is conducted at multiple clinical research sites in the United States and collects both weight and safety outcome data.

Who should consider this trial

Good fit: Adults with BMI ≥30 kg/m2 or BMI 27.0–<30.0 kg/m2 plus at least one weight-related comorbidity (hypertension, dyslipidemia, obstructive sleep apnea, or cardiovascular disease) who do not have diabetes and meet other screening requirements are ideal candidates.

Not a fit: People with any form of diabetes, recent large weight changes, a personal or family history of medullary thyroid carcinoma or MEN-2, recent pancreatitis, or active symptomatic gallbladder disease are not likely to be eligible or benefit from participation.

Why it matters

Potential benefit: If successful, MET097 could offer an effective once-weekly injectable option to help people with obesity or overweight lose clinically meaningful weight and improve weight-related health problems.

How similar studies have performed: Other once-weekly injectable medications for weight management (for example GLP-1 receptor agonists) have shown substantial weight loss in similar populations, so this approach builds on earlier successful therapies.
