What this trial studies
Researchers will compare children attending early childhood education in Turku who are offered the live attenuated nasal influenza vaccine at their daycare (with the option to get it at healthcare) to a comparison group offered vaccination only at healthcare clinics. The primary outcome is the proportion of children who receive influenza vaccination in each group during the campaign. The intervention leverages existing daycare settings to reduce barriers and measure whether on-site availability increases uptake. The trial includes all children attending daycare in Turku with no additional exclusion criteria provided.
Who should consider this trial
Good fit: Ideal candidates are young children who attend early childhood education/daycare in Turku.
Not a fit: Children who do not attend daycare, who live outside Turku, or who cannot receive the live attenuated nasal vaccine for medical reasons may not benefit from this approach.
Why it matters
Potential benefit: If successful, offering the nasal vaccine in daycare could raise vaccination rates and reduce influenza-related illness among young children.
How similar studies have performed: Previous vaccination programs delivered in schools and childcare settings have often increased uptake, so this approach has precedent and supportive evidence.
